“What do near-fatal incidents, self reflection and death all have in common? They all, for me at least, help to put life into perspective. Each of these offers a different view point, for example a close encounter might help us to realise what really matters to us and what isn’t worth the stress. Similarly, self reflection can help us see where we may be wasting time or opportunities and how...

– -The Art of Civilized Conversation
I am using this book as a resource for my op-ed piece on manners. It is a blessing and a curse. Nonetheless, I loved this quote and had to share it with the internet.
You don't change for approval. You change for the...

Pep talk: If you’ve been brave enough to make a change, then I know you’re also strong enough to withstand the criticism associated with challenging others’ perceptions of you. People like it when you’re simple and easy to understand. They love to be able to say, “Oh typical Rachel, she always wears her hair curly and drinks until she blacks out.” So when I change my hair or I get...

I’m sure you’ve all heard, and half of you are on, Twitter right now. As social media becomes increasingly relevant in today’s culture, it’s interesting to see how it can be used to help social activism.
I’ve made no secret of the fact that the genocide in Darfur is something I feel strongly about; the lack of empathy and regard for human life is ridiculous and needs to...
MySpace Deletes Atheist Group →

From the site:
MySpace Deletes Largest Atheist Group in the World.
Cleveland, OH.— Social networking site, MySpace.com, panders to religious intolerants by deleting atheist users, groups and content.
Early this month, MySpace again deleted the Atheist and Agnostic Group (35,000 members). This deletion, due largely to complaints from people who find atheism offensive, marks the...
Always a silver lining.
Apparently the silver lining to my running around-stressed to the max schedule is additional weight loss. I bought this size 6 skirt yesterday not realizing that is in fact to large and I should have purchased the size 4. At least I am still losing weight.

Internet ...
is still not fixed even though BH promised they would come out yesterday. I have decided to plant myself around town to steal it until other wise noted.
The internet has been out since Sunday.
I am days behind on blogging.
Brighthouse was suppose to come out and fix it between noon and 2 p.m. today.
So far, no one has called or shown up.
Once you say you’re going to settle for second, that’s what happens...

Good morning world,
I am extremely excited to be up early on a Sunday morning. After a productive week I am heading to the park to read, write and relax while attempting to prolong my subtle tan from last weekend. Enjoy your day, world!
New Rule: Not Everything in America Has to Make a... →
savagemike:
How about this for a New Rule: Not everything in America has to make a profit. It used to be that there were some services and institutions so vital to our nation that they were exempt from market pressures. Some things we just didn’t do for money. The United States always defined capitalism, but it didn’t used to define us. But now it’s becoming all that we are.

Sometimes, when I’m sitting in a chair—just sitting in a chair, nothing more—well, something happens. I’ll be sitting in a chair—nothing more—and then all of a sudden like, maybe a violent gust of wind—yes, I can imagine a violent gust of wind—, all of a sudden something happens with my ears. I’ll be sitting in a chair and a violent gust of wind will catch me off...
Can Blogging Make You Happier? →
jessicalindsey:
“Can blogging help you feel more connected with others and, in turn, increase your own sense of well-being and happiness? Apparently so, at least amongst college students. And even if the results don’t generalize quite so strongly to others, the data indicate a trend that suggests there continues to be benefits of journaling — whether public or private. Public journaling — blogging...
Wanna learn HTML??? →
(via hamzadaoui)
Yes, more than anything! But I am so bad at it. I tried last semester and failed miserably. I then asked every guest speaker if their newspaper, magazine, etc was already set-up or if I would have to write html. They never knew the answer.

This is going to be interesting.
Due to lack of interest from other reporters I volunteered for three articles to write this weekend. THREE! Something is wrong with me.
It is like Reese in the movie Election - out of control.

This fall I will be contributing video to CFF’s newspaper in addition to my articles. I am pretty excited to be part of this aspect of journalism!
Thank You

Thank you, Jerriann for introducing me to Google Analytics on Tumblr. This is impressive. I’m able to see where people are from that view my blog, how many visits I receive, average time spent on my tumblr, etc. I’ve had people in Norway read my blog. It’s definitely fun to look at. Much better than “Tumblarity”. Check it out!
OoO Gare! Just saw you wrote this!

One summer.
One summer, prior to high school, Alyssa and I attended about five different Christian summer camps over the course of three months.
Keep in mind that we went to Catholic school during the school year. And by Christian camps I mean different types of Christianity.
Apparently, consistent religious practices were not as important during the summer.

I require complete silence when writing which is why I do not do it nearly enough. I can barely keep myself quiet for 5 minutes let alone the time it takes to write a blog post, article or chapter in a book.
