My first bar job was tending a pub in London’s “Little Lebanon” district off Edgware Road. A regular at the pub was a Norwich man named Paul. He had several prison tattoos on his hands and face including a murderer’s teardrop beside his left eye socket. He also loved Dido…a lot.
“Peblo!” He’d shout/grunt over his pint of Stella Artois, “put on Dye-doo!” Of course I obeyed and he’d quietly sing/grunt along to “White Flag”, which arrived this morning in my Tumblr feed via kari-shma, and reopened wide-eyed memories of my London underworld in late-2004.
HA! What a great story!
