The Global Perspectives Office and Department of Civil, Environmental and
Construction Engineering are pleased to announce that Danny Orlando, Southeast
Regional Program Manager, Energy Star Program, U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency will speak Tuesday, September 29 at the University of Central Florida.
Orlando will give a presentation titled "Storms and Opportunities: A Planetary
Energy and Climate Discussion" at 2 p.m. in the Cape Florida Ballroom of the
Student Union. The event is free and open to the public.
Orlando, an industrial engineer with degrees from Georgia Tech University, has
been working at the EPA's Atlanta Regional Office for over 18 years. For 16 of
those years, he has been the Regional Program Manager for Energy Star, and a
technical contact for climate change.
Orlando is part of the 'energy team' that qualified the Sam Nunn Atlanta
Federal Center, the ninth largest Federal Building in the country, as an ENERGY
STAR building. The building was re-qualified in May 2007 and presently has a
score of 98 and is pursuing LEED Silver status.
Orlando has been featured in many news programs, televisions spots and
publications over the years, and can now be seen in the national version of
"Kilowatt Ours," a Jeff Barrie Production (the film is now showing on PBS
stations across the country), and as a commentator on the Powering a Nation
website (www.poweringanation.org).
